Altitude sickness, or Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), is a serious consideration when trekking above 3,000 meters in the Himalayas. The most effective way to prevent altitude sickness is gradual ascent—giving your body time to acclimatize to the lower oxygen levels. Drink plenty of water (at least 4 liters a day), avoid alcohol and sleeping pills, climb high and sleep low, and pay close attention to early symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, or loss of appetite. If symptoms worsen, the gold standard treatment is to descend immediately. We design our itineraries with dedicated acclimatization days to ensure maximum safety and comfort for all our climbers.
